I have just read your excellent article "Prom Fumble" and the PhotoLove Story of June 15th. As a witness to those events, I feel compelled to complement your work with a few pertinent details: If I remember correctly, Naomi Horowitz was Julian's official date for the prom, and Matt Millman was Gage's. I hasten to add that getting Gage to the prom despite the distressing turn of events was like pulling teeth! The Gage and Julian story doesn't really start until the ride home from the prom. I don't remember all of the details but somehow Julian, Gage and I ended up in the front seat of the family station wagon and our dates were in the back. This is where it gets good--some time after we came out of the Treasure Island Tunnel, Julian made some suave move. I remember it as him putting his hand on her knee, but she remembers it as him wedging her arm into the seat (I still haven't quite figured out the logistics of that one, nor the romantic gesture implied!) Anyhow, when the disputed 'gesture' occurred, Gage looked at me wide eyed as if to say "Did you just see what happened?" and I said with my eyes "Uh huh". Then, Julian looked at her looking at me and I looked at Julian thinking "It's about time!" Not a single word was said. I don't really remember talking about it later or ever, but maybe we did. I will say that on the night of our high school graduation I wasn't surprised to see them sitting real close on the couch.
